Great fan of RetroPie ! Have been following the project for years already.

I've done a fresh install of 4.4 on my RP3, ran the update script and started to configure the controllers (XBOX 360 Wireless) and get copied some ROMS.

I had to enable XboxDRV to get the controllers to work properly (which is I know issue apparently), but the games I tried stutter and freeze sometimes. (video freezes, audio continues).

Now, it is possible that 4.4 is still somewhat unstable ? (of shouldn't I have run the update script ? )

Sorry, was more a generic question to see if others have the same problem. Anyhow, added here below

Pi Model or other hardware: PI3B
Power Supply used: No details, but enough V (not seeing any power issues)
RetroPie Version Used : 4.4 (downloaded yesterday) and ran update script (yesterday)
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Standard XBOX 360 Wireless receiver
          Controller used: XBOX 360 Wireless
Error messages received: None specifically at the moment
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant): I'll check later, nothing really in there
Guide used: Enabled XboxDRV / Mounted ROM share (NFS)
          Emulator: multiple (SNES, NES, ...)

@tgilly If you'd like to diagnose the problem, then you'd have to provide the necessary info. No, I don't think 4.4 is unstable, but your problems look like a power supply problem, the system throttling itself down automatically, or more related to the fact that your ROM folder is mounted over the network.
Check if your power supply is right up to the specs and then try running the ROMs from the sd card for a test to see if you get the same symptoms.
