Read this is you like to laugh at someone else. :)
Got a 32gb Class 10 SD that I wanted to install Retropie 4.4 on my new RP3B+.
I downloaded the Image, so far so good, opened the Win32writer application and selected the image and got Error 1117.
Tried to format the card in windows - No Luck
Tried to delete all partitions using disk management in windows = disk management program crashes.
Downloaded 3 different SD card format tools. Non of them was able to. (Error said Write protected)
Using a microSD so there are no pin for write protection.
Downloaded Partition Master to check and the SD card had 3 partitions. Not able to delete any of them (Error said Write protected).
Got somewhat frustrated and tried LInux but not luck there either.
Read on a forum for similar issue and the recommendation was to use a camera or similar and format it there.
Plugged it into an android phone but the card was not seen. Plugged it into a digital camera. SD card error when trying to format it using the camera. Tested with another camera but no luck there either.
Tried plugging it into my PS4 and it WORKED... :)What I learned is: Try formatting the SD card on EVERYTHING...

I had a similar issue where it wouldn't format or delete any files. Ended up being corrupted past repair and just had to get a new one.

Flashed to wrong image to the SD card and when trying to flash the correct Image to the troubles SD card I was back to error 1117. Tried Everything now but not even the PS4 was able to save the SD card.
I Think the SD card got Self-aware and wanted out. So.. I wrote "skynet" on it and threw it away.RIP 32gb Class 10 SD card.. I will miss U..

@magnum77 I will do this for all future trashed SD cards. Thank you for this tutorial. 😂

I don't know what causes the SD cards to fail all of the sudden but the two I've had fail wound up having a hairline split in them and folded in half when I played with them. I don't know if it's from heat and then taking them out and putting stress on them but both failures were physical damage
