I have installed the retropie .img and extracted. I am now trying to flash the .img to my micro sd card. 28 files have appeared on my micro sd card (including 1 folder) but I cannot get retropie to boot when I insert the card into the case. What do I do?

Which software did you use to flash the sd card? I have used Etcher successfully, and it is available on Linux, Mac and Windows.

@pluto51804 Please provide more info about your system - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
Looking at the LEDs on your PI (assuming you have a model with such output), you can determine which problem is preventing the boot, see https://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting.

@pluto51804 If nothing lights up, you might have a faulty/improper power supply.

@pluto51804 That tells you that your power supply is producing some power, but doesn't tell you if it is providing enough to drive your Pi. What power supply are you using, and what power is it rated at?

@pluto51804 The NesPi cases have a reputation for not providing enough power to the Pi. Get your Pi out of the case and connect it directly to the power supply, if it boots, then it's the case. The 3B+ model is more sensitive to improper power supplies, as noted in the release notes, so your problem is probably power related.
