Saving Arcade highscores through Retroarch menu?
-
Hi I don't like to save automatically on exit as I've had problems in the past with my cabinet controls and complex inputs getting conflicted or mucked up... the only snag with that is I lose my high scores when I exit a rom.
I have everything working great now but I was just wondering if I can manualy save high scores in retroarch so it auto loads each time I boot a rom in the future?

@mattyl42 hi scores are handled differently to controls. you don't need
config_save_on_exit = true
to save hi scores.can you give us more information on a game + emulator that's not saving hiscores at default settings on exit? not all games + emulators support hi score saving.

@dankcushions hi mate... it's pretty much every arcade game that doesn't save hi scores. If I exit and go back in the scores are gone. I can modify my key binds in retroarch manual save them and they remain after exiting. Can't seem to save scores though.
In theory I suppose I could 'save state' and manually load it each time. But it's not as pure as the Roms booting up with my scores saved. -
@mattyl42 yeah this is strange! it shouldn't matter about the RGUI menu. see https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003#high-scores - if you exit a game in mame2003, that is supported in hiscore.dat, it will store the leaderboard as a .hi file in the locations above.
you'll have to give me a specific game and emulator example for me to help further.

@MattyL42 not sure if this is still the case, but I had to replace my hiscore.dat for mame2003/advmame1.4, after I replaced it then my scores saved.

@dankcushions Hi... it's most of the popular games capcom and taito. Pretty much all the brawling ones like Avp- knights of the round - the punisher. I can't think of one game that does save hi scores so appear to have a problem? I have ran one update a few months ago.
-
@mattyl42 you need to give a specific game still. test one - log a score that makes the table, and then check the directory in the link, and see if it's created a file. that's the only way can diagnose this.

@stoney66 hi there, Thanks for the link... do you know the version I need and where the high score.dat file I need to replace is? I'm a basic user but think I can manage this.
-
@mattyl42 you don’t need to replace any files. actually please fill out the full form detailing your setup from the ‘read this first’ link. we have yet to actually know the emulator your are using.

@MattyL42 You prob don't need to replace anything like dank said, this was from a couple years ago but it did fix my problem. Just send the info of your setup so someone can help you further.
Here was the old thread for reference.
