I can't get any of the MSX emulators on retropie 3.8, Pi3b to respond to any of the standard keyboard buttons. Some of the function keys do get something to happen - but I cannot type in the BASIC screen and get the letters to appear on screen. I have also tried Bomber Man (1983) (Hudson) (J), and it loaded, then I had no way to use the game as none of the keys it wanted you to use (SPACE and 2 others) were recognised from my keyboard, that works with every other system on retropie that I have tried.

      Thanks for any help,

      Matt.

I had the same problem with some games like River Raid and Gun Fright, where in the main is being asked how many players are going to play by pressing "1" or "2" on the keyboard. You won't be able to use the joypad for input.
I didn't succeed in binding the 1 and 2 keys to any of the buttons of my joypad.

But the solutions is actually very simple (assuming you have connected both a Keyboard and Joypad to your RaspberryPi):

            1. On the joypad, use Select + X buttons to enter in the RetroArch main menu.
            2. In the mainmenu, choose Settings --> Input --> Input User 2 binds
            3. In User 2 binds, select in User 2 Device Type the RetroKeyboard option.
            4. Go back to the RetroArch main menu by pressing B (on the joypad) three times.
            5. Go to Quick Menu and select resume Game.

Now, whenever you need to input any character, you can use the keyboard...

Is there a hotkey solution for using keyboard events? Like put Stop on select and B? I'm a huge eggerland fan so shortcuts are better then using a keyboard :p

@Sito said in Keyboard control in MSX emulators:

                  Hey, that works!
Now I can use full keyboard in any game. It's time to play Metal Gear!
