Problem with advancemane v3.7

Hi All ..

I am new to the Retropie system and the Raspberry Pi 3 but after looking the forum and also the site I decided to try and build an Arcade Machine with a Raspberry Pi and a old AimTrak light gun that i've got.

I've managed to get the gunconf loaded into the RetroPie setup and the Aimtrak Gun works perfectly with the calibration and tracking.

The problem I know face is what I thought would have been the easiest, The light gun will only work with AdvanceMame >=3.4 and so I got hold of a Mame Rom Set 0.106 and proceeded to load the roms into the directory "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-advmame" and they then showed up in the Emulator screen.

When i try and load the Rom the screen goes black for around 3 seconds and then just goes back to the game selection.

I know the the Roms are ok a i decided to try them out with AdvanceMame 1.4 and they loaded perfectly.

Any help would be appricated as i've scoured the net and forums for the last week and tried various things without and success.

@cder After a failed launch, look in the Runcommand log file (/dev/shm/runcommand.log) and see if you can spot any errors reported by the emulator. If the ROMs are fine, then you might have mis-configured something in the AdvanceMame's config file.

@mitu Thanks for the advise, the config file hasn't been changed (as far a i'm aware) as I downloaded a fresh version of RetorPie, Installed AdvanceMame from source and tried it from their without loading or changing anything else.

@cder If you're unable to play any ROMs, how can you be sure the config file is ok ? Just saying, but check the log file I mentioned. In the the log you could see how the advmame command is started and you could run the same command manually from the command line, with the -log parameter in order to see more information.

@mitu Sorry I just thought that seeing it was a fresh install of RetroPie and AdvanceMame the config file would be ok. I will check the file and post a message if I still can't work it out .. Thanks for your help

@cder I must have mis-understood then, I though you modified the config file for the AimTrak gun. The default file should be ok, so there shouldn't be a problem here. Can you get the log file and paste the output here in the topic ?

@mitu I did orginally but when the roms didn't work I went back to the beginning and started over without loading in the Aimtak gun or changing Adavncemame's .rc file.

I will post the log file at some point tomorrow as i'm not at home at the mo so can't have another play with it until then.

@cder Well after playing around with it (and with your advice) I finally got Advance Mame working how it should. I haven't got a clue on how I managed it but i'm just happy that it is.
