      I'm working on a new bartop and would love to get this game working. The only mame version I've been able to get it to work on a Pi3 is lr-mame2003, which is consistent with most of the other midway games. Unfortunately, it is unplayable due to choppy video. Has anyone gotten this to work? If so, what mame version have you had success with? Any tips or tricks?

      Thanks.

        This is likely too much for the Pi to handle no matter what you're using. 'NBA Jam' was released two years earlier and it doesn't run well either. The Playstation version might be your best bet.

        Edit: Ha! 1138, nice.

          Good to know. I tinkered with NBA Jam enough to make me think it was running fine, but I didn't play very long, so there definitely could be issues there I didn't see. I'll look into the psx version and see what I can do. Thanks!

            Also, it could be that the situation has changed since I last tried it. I'd be interested to hear more about what all you tinkered with.

              I'll check my settings and let you know. I was playing with Jam, Jam TE, and couple of Hangtime versions, so I can't remember each. I know most of the tinkering was related to getting the 2d controller setup to be player 3 instead of player 2 on a 4-player rom, and then dealing with the volume settings for each. I think each is working on lr-mame2003, but I'll recheck that tonight and let you know.

              Thanks.

                Wonder if this will get better with the renegade elite when it comes out next month?

                  Hey there. I'm gonna be your savior on this one. I've got Open Ice running on my Pi 3B+ at full framerate and fully playable. (Got about 68 games played in my stats!) On a regular Pi 3B, I was able to play it with the only caveat being that audio would sometimes slow down and speed back up strangely but nothing more than a minor annoyance.

                  arcade_openice = "advmame-0.94"

                  If you play a game into Overtime and the final goal is a high shot that hits the goalie in the head and knocks him down while going in, the goalie gets stuck mid-fall at a 45 degree angle until the game goes back to the main UI.

                    Yeah its not too bad with 0.94 (rpi 3b), I was using advmame1.4 and game play was fine but audio was really really bad. 0.94 is a bit better.

                      Just to put a punctuation to this, I finally got around to testing these myself and they all work fine in both lr-mame2003 and AdvanceMAME 3.7. Going back over some previous posts, it looks like there was trouble in the past, but with AdvanceMAME now being optimized for the Pi alongside the ever-improving lr-mame2003, these titles seem to work very well. I plan on suggesting a few rounds of 'Tournament Edition' for the fourth tomorrow.

                        @zerojay That's great news! I'm running on a 3b. Did you have to do anything special in settings, or recompile the rom or anything special? I tried to switch to have it open in advmame-0.94, and it just goes right back to the Emulation Station menu.

                        Thanks for all the replies!

                          AdvanceMAME 0.94 uses the MAME 0.94 ROM set. Are you using the game ROM from that set?

                            No, nothing like that. Just have the proper ROM set.

                              @mediamogul Not sure. I'll be sure to pull that particular one and try it. Thanks!
