Pi 2 with Retropie 4.4 and a standard setup (HDMI to Samsung HDTV).

I believe all of the audio settings are at their default values and I'm using lr-snes9x2010 for SNES emulation.

The sound constantly crackles and pops, almost as if there is static noise in the background.

I'm not running a vacuum or fan or much of anything from the extension cable that my Pi is plugged into.

Nothing that I can think of that would affect the power going to the Pi.

Could I perhaps get the preferred audio values that someone here is very happy with?

      System Sound is at 80%.
Audio Device is set as PCM.
Alsa Mixer is set to PCM at 44%.
Default audio settings for the emulator.

Do I need to overclock a little for better sound quality?

My Pi already does have a heatsink for this if needed.

I'm really hoping to hear from someone.

      Please and thank you. :)

@addison You could try to add the line audio_pwm_mode=2 to your /boot/config.txt. It made the sound on my Pi 3b much better, but I don't have any experience with a Pi 2.

@clyde This is the case when using the 3.5' audio jack. @Addison is your audio going through HDMI or do you have external speakers connected to the Pi audio jack ? If so, then follow @clyde's advice (more details also in https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Sound-Issues/#white-noise-fix).

@mitu Thanks. I bookmarked the link you provided for when I might use headphones.

It's HDMI straight to the TV with no additional speakers.

Anyway, I overclocked to 1,000 mghz and the emulator runs perfect now.

I don't ever remember having any audio issues before but all of that static popping noise is gone again.

@mitu Thanks for the addition, I forgot to mention that.

@Addison As mitu said, my tip doesn't apply to HDMI, sorry.
