Pi Model or other hardware: Pi3b
Power Supply used: Official
RetroPie Version Used: 4.4.2
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Keyboard, Gamesir G3w in port 1Hi Guys. Has anyone had any luck getting these controllers working with Emulationstation?
All the lights light up on the controller when connected but on the configure input screen I just get the "No gamepads detected" message.
I've read in other posts, specifically regarding the G3s that you are required to do a button combo to activate the controller but cant seem to find any relevant info regarding the wired version.
Any help will be most welcome :D -
@jozzy1 I had luck holding the “Home” button (for lack of a better term) - the one with the logo on it in the middle of the controller that is also lt up- for about ten seconds after the system boots up. Then I could configure input. Every time I restart the system though I need to hold that button down now before the controller will work but then I don’t have to configure it again. Hope this helps.

@bjretro yeah still no luck with that buddy but thanks anyway. funny thing is Ive gotten one of these controllers to work with a previous version of retropie by holding a button combination but for the life of me I cannot remember or find any useful information.

@jozzy1 yeah before the home button thing wound up working I found the same info as you and then wound up just mashing on a bunch of button combinations at once. Like holding R1 R2 home X start all together. Maybe get a friend and just both hold down all the buttons on the controller lol. I wonder if something changed in a recent update because like you when I first got the controller and used with the original 4.4 image I didn’t have to do any of this stuff, it just worked.

Hi man, I got two gamesir G3w controllers, both are paired with bluetooth. I know they must be android mode, and if I remember correct the combination I used was the home button and Y. I Never had an issue with them pairing afterwards, after they paired just need to push the home button too switch on the controller everytime.

@icvaalmall84 Sorry, only realized now, you talking about the wired G3w controller, I am using the G3s

@icvaalmall84 yeah no worries. the mad thing is the old controller I got connected works fine on RP 4.4.2 but for all the button mashing in the world I cant get the new one to get recognized. i'll try next week on a earlier build of retropie and see if I can get the damn thing connected and if it works i'll post the results. cheers guys for the suggestions though...

@jozzy1 Not specific to Retropie, but with owning a number of these controllers, I believe it has to do with the way the newer 4.14 kernel polls/received and processes ID data from the G3W which is a multimode controller. You can switch modes by holding the blue “home”button for 5-10 seconds. You will see the controller disconnect as “Xbox 360....” and reconnect with a gamesir ID. Then you can set the bindings for the controller config if not there already.
