Kodi black screen but you can still hear the menu UI clicks when you press buttons, happens when you stop or finish a video.

I found this which seems like the exact same issue:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/13250/kodi-screen-goes-black-after-video-finishes/21If you run Kodi from the ports menu, the issue doesn’t occur, it’s only happening when I boot up Retropie and I have it set to start Kodi instead of emulationstation at boot.
Pi Model: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Power Supply used: Official power supply 5.1v 2.5A
RetroPie Version Usd: v4.4.2
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website. File: “retropie-4.4-rpi2_rpi3.img.gz”
USB Devices connected:- Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse (one USB receiver)
- 1 USB iBuffalo game controller
- OSMC remote control receiver
Controller used: I’m using the USB gamepad, the OSMC remote and the TV’s remote through HDMI CEC.
How to replicate the problem: set the pi to start Kodi on startup with the Retropie-Setup script. Reboot. Play a video. Stop it.Kodi debug log:

Seems like a graphics problem, need to change video settings. Think that kodi had a configuration settings file somewhere, will try to search it.

Did anyone find a solution to this?
-
@bejhan no I never did sorry. Ended up just leaving Retropie as Retropie and Kodi separately.
I also then tried Plex. Good luck finding a fix. I’m guessing newer version might spontaneously fix the issue.

@bejhan First make sure you have RetroPie updated. Then go to RetroPie Setup -> Configuration / Tools -> Raspbian Tools -> Update Raspbian Packages and reboot at the end.
-
Edit config.txt and put disable_overscan=1. If exists # before, erase It.
Thats all,

@Gwyllion said in Kodi black screen but you can still hear the menu UI clicks when you press buttons, happens when you stop or finish a video.:
Edit config.txt and put disable_overscan=1. If exists # before, erase It.
Thats all,
That worked! Thank you!

@bejhan this didnt fix the black screen issue for me with kodi 18.1 on this vizio vo400e tv. This did fix an issue with kodi 18.1 where the screen was crazy zoomed in and the only way to fix it was to minimize the screen and then maximize it again on an lg oled c6.
On the vizio tv that i am having issues with now if i just power the tv off then on again it works fine till i go back to the retropie menu and then thats a black screen. Same thing happens if I switch film mode off then kodi appears but then when you exit the retropie menu is a black screen. Same thing happens when you switch inputs on the tv from hdmi 1 (where pie is connected) to something else then back to hdmi 1 and once again when you exit the retropie menu is black screen until you do 1 of the methods i mentioned above. So what is kodi on launch (and exit) doing that is making the tv black screen that nothing else installed in retropie is doing. For example I have pixel desktop (lxde) installed under ports also and a bunch of emulators. Everything else but kodi launches and exits fine.
