Hi everyone. I am new to the forum but an old fan of Emulationstation.

If is there anyone interested, I am in a project which automates the download and configuration of EmulationStation on Windows. It's really easy to use. If you are interested, you can find it here:

      https://github.com/PRElias/win10_emulation_station/tree/choco-auto-install

(It points to a branch on my fork with some new features, but you can find the original there)

        Hello

I used your script and followed your directions. I can load up Emulation Station and go to a game. When it tries to load any game it brings up a window saying RetroArch and then closes and goes back to Emulation Station.

Any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks.

@orehruoy let me think...which system? Have you tried with your ROMs or homebrew that came with the package? Happens on all systems? Usually is a problem with drectories set on config. On the .emulationstation folder there will be a log too

@orehruoy Every system I tried. I tried 3 different ones. I just tried roms that I have and added to it. I don't know what you mean by the .emulationstation folder. I have one for roms, one for core locations, windowed emulationstation, and the shortcut to open emulation station.

              @orehruoy I was referring to this folder/file:

              %UserProfile%\.emulationstation\es_systems.cfg

You can check the paths for libretro DLLs there.

Another tip is to try retroarch directly. Go to:

              %UserProfile%\.emulationstation\systems\retroarch\retroarch.exe

Execute the file and try to run the ROMs directly from retroarch. At least we'll have more clues.

I tried to run retroarch directly from there and it opens for a second then closes. The file paths in the other folder look ok to me. If you wanna see them I can pm it to you. Something with installation is my guess.

Even running as admin I had to look up how to give it permission to do something. Then it said one thing wasn't right still but it went through. So maybe that had something to do with it.

@orehruoy thanks for the feedback..I am running more tests on another PC and had a problem with a safety message too. I had to execute the first command by myself, before running the script...

You can send me your file with you want

If retroarch fails, the error is not related with Emulationstation or the config files, I really don't have a clue right now, but retroarch has a debug mode and I will look what we can do

                    This is from the log...

                    lvl2: Attempting to launch game...
                    lvl2: getting volume as 18 ( from float 0.18)
                    lvl2: C:\Users\username.emulationstation\systems\retroarch\retroarch.exe -L C:\Users\username.emulationstation\systems\retroarch\cores\genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll "C:\Users\username.emulationstation\roms\megadrive\36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples 32X (E) [!].bin"
lvl1: ...launch terminated with nonzero exit code -1073741819!

I did some Googling if that is even a word... anyways someone thought it had to do with path names and if theres a space you need extra quotation marks or something but I don't know where they mean to fix this.

@orehruoy I don't know if it's a problem only on the log or even on the site interface, but take a look at your retroarch fullpath

                      C:\Users\username.emulationstation\

It lacks a slash before the dot, as below:

                      C:\Users\username\.emulationstation\

(here at the website, it's necessary to put double slash because it works as a escape)

                      But worth a validation

It does have that the site is just removing it.

@orehruoy OK...another thing on that which worth an ask is: the string does not contain "username" on the real file, does it?

Spaces on ROMs names shouldn't be a problem. I have that too.

@orehruoy OK, I am really without options here, sorry. But, as I said earlier, if it's not working even launching directly from Retroarch.exe it's not a problem on the script itself or the config files from EmulationStation.
