@kleenax My guess is the resistance on most or all of those cables may cause voltage issues with the Pi 3 since every one I have seen appears larger gauge wire. You could build your own cable with some matching gauge wire and some male/female dyi ends:

Thank you for the reply @TheDataCereal
Building my own cable is my last resort. Right now after about 30 minutes I'm going to try a DC Barrel Jack to Micro-USB adapter. It's 5v rated with a ton a good reviews and I also found a USB to 5.5 mm/2.1 mm 5 Volt DC Barrel Jack Power Cable . So in ~ 2 days I'll have a better answer.

What power supply are you using? I have an adafruit micro usb extension and 5v 3a power supply and have no problems with low voltage and I'm powering an external HD through my pi 3B

@simpleethat I'm currently using the power supply that came with my CanaKit.

@kleenax Let me know how that works. I'm tempted to test an Amazon cable on mine now

I was supposed to get my new cables in today but when they arrived the seller sent me the wrong product. I will update when I receive the correct item and put them to the test .

Unless the cables specify the gauge of the power wire, don't buy them. I made my own since the connectors were like $1-2.

For reference, the official pi power supply uses 18awg.

All cables have arrived and I'm getting the same issue. Looks like making my own cable is the way to go. I might try a new power supply as well. Thank you@darksavior for the correct gauge of wire I should use.

@kleenax Yep, I can only recommend the official pi power supply that's 5.1V 2.5A. I've never tried the rest. The pi will complain if voltage goes under 5V, so make sure the power supply is 5.1V.

                        Final Update:

Turns out it was my charger all along . Here is what I ended up doing.

From my Pi3 I run a DC Barrel Jack to Micro-USB B Male Connector (http://a.co/d/4yVdU3c) . Then from the barrel jack I have a normal power supply (http://a.co/d/7j0vMr3) . No voltage issues at all and everything seems fine.
