lr-mame failing to launch (x86/x64)

Error messages received: none visible when launching in ES. see below for other details.

How to replicate the problem: Follow the guide above to build RP on Ubuntu. Install the lr-mame core from experimental. Copy rom and bios to appropriate locations. Try to launch ROM.Core seems to compile OK (no failure) but it is unable to be loaded in RA. I tried loading manually also and it won't.
I'm rebuilding the laptop now with Ubuntu 16.04 x86 and will test again.

UPDATE:
I downloaded the latest
mame_libretro.so
file from the RA buildbot site and copied it to/opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mame/mamearcade_libretro.so
MAME 0.200 ROMs launch as expected.
