So I have had my raspberry pi 3 for 2 yrs. I have 2 - usb arcade sticks and buttons plugged in along with a track ball usb. I had zero problems until about 3 months ago. Here is the problem....

      • After the initial controller configuration, and I select a game in a core ( mame, snes, fba, etc...). The button mapping goes haywire. So much in fact its hard to maneuver and go back to the menu ( with the hot key + start). I have to reconfigure the controllers every time I exit a rom in order to manuver ( its unplayable at this point)
      • As of today, the mame emulator is only recognizing the "game pad" #2. #1 isn't recognized.

I have been troubleshooting like crazy the last several weeks. Today I deleted all the configurations from the opt folders ( via a SFTP) and uninstalled and reinstalled retroarch, hoping to give me a clean slate.

After I reinstalled retroarch, I rebooted, mapped my usb controllers upon reboot, started a game in mame, and the problem still exists.

Any help would be appreciated, I am at a lost right now. Thanks for the help!

Please give more information about your system as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. Which MAME emulator ? There are several emulators for arcade available.
Your problem seems to be triggered by using 'Save Config on Exit' option in RetroArch - did you by any chance have this option turned on ?

Thanks for teh qyick feedback, please see below for more info.

I verified, the "save configuration on Exit" is OFF

Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 3 (RPi3) Model B Quad-Core 1.2 GHz 1 GB RAM
Power Supply used: CanaKit 2.5A USB Power Supply with Micro USB Cable and Noise Filter - Specially designed for the Raspberry Pi 3 (UL Listed)
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.3.5
Built From: (Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website, Berryboot, or on top of existing OS etc.. - please provide the filename of any image used) Motion Blue image
USB Devices connected: (1) USB Trackball, (2) cooling fans, (1) usb keyboard
Controller used: 2 Easyget LED Arcade DIY Parts 2x Zero Delay USB Encoder + 2x 8 Way Joystick + 20x LED Illuminated Push Buttons for Mame Jamma Arcade Project Red + Blue Kits
Error messages received: No real error messages received. The controller mapping changes when switching between cores ( emulators). Also, the MAME 2003 emulator does not recognize controller input 1 ( it actually recognizes input 2 as #1 & #2 input),
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide)
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable): Right now I am finding all emulators within the retropie main core packages keep giving me this error. I will set the input @ the startup but then when I run the Rom in any of the emulators, the input changes
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
          How to replicate the problem:

Sorry to say it, but we don't support 3rd party images (Motion blue ?). Please use the image provided at retropie.org.uk/download and then we'll be able to provide support.
