You already have a topic opened with your problem (https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/18947/controller-issue), why are you opening a new one ?

You still need to provide more details as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. What happens when you map the controller - you're saying it doesn't work, but how exactly ?

What is the exact controller model ? Looks like a mis-behaving controller, maybe acting as a keyboard (?).

@drmyth Try re-installing the xpad driver and resetting your controller configuration, then re-map the input controller.

Can definitely confirm there's a problem with controller setup. Decided yesterday to start afresh with a new image (4.4.2), with a view to buying the newer B+ model soon. Went OK other than the controller settings. I have a Logitech F710 and it would not set up properly. Couldn't set the triggers (specifically the right trigger was an issue) and kept skipping thumb R2/3 buttons. Also for some reason though start and select appeared to be set, they didn't work in game and I had to find a way to exit whichever game I'd launched and reconfigure the pad. But of course this was hit and miss.

I even tried copying over my current in-use config from my 4.3 install, but that just sent things crazy.

@ranma The problem in this topic is specific to the xpad driver, which powers the Xbox 360/One controllers, it's not a general one.
Basically, after an update of kernel, the xpad RetroPie driver was not installed and overwritten by the default one, which is sometimes incomplete depending on the model. This has been reported after the 4.4 was released, but was fixed some time ago https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/commit/f6e5a6d70512fc796a4fb535ddf1b44ea985db47.

Oh I see. I assumed as the Logitech F710 switch had to be set to X input rather than D that this issue was effectively the same as mine. I'll start a new thread when I decide to have another attempt and if the problem resurfaces. Many thanks. :-)
