[SOLVED] Backup roms and scraped data from SD card to USB
-
There is an automated way to backup all personal roms and scraped data from an SD card on which is installed retropie? If not, we should copy all data manually? And where is the path where the scraped stuff is stored?
Would be a nice idea to have some tool in a futher retropie relase, accessible by the retropie setup, amyways

I have always questioned this but what I did, is scarp my roms with XML Scraper on the PC. Add them to example the roms pack of the same set and zip them to keep them safe for later.
The scraped data on the pi are located under
/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/downloaded_images
and
/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists
Hope it helps

@icvaalmall84 indeed, thank you! Maybe someone knows if XML Scraper exists as a compiled package for any linux distributions, expecially Ubuntu? In fact, its page on GitHub provides only win .exe and sources, no any .deb and/or rpm.
As for manual copy, we have to follow the inverted procedure as reported on the wiki? That is to say: make a "retropie" folder on an USB stick, plug into the pi, unplug once it finises blinkg and then copy the roms into the rispective directory, do you confirm that?
And please, how do we insert code snippets in the post? :D

No, it's Windows only. If you're looking for other scrapers, try the Steven Selph's scraper - included as RetroPie package, or Skyscraper.

No, you'll have to copy them manually.

There's a help link right on the top right textarea where you're writing your messages, named COMPOSE.

All right, for an even simple explanation, i'd advice to see this video on YouTube, from the very excellent channel ETA PRIME:
Please note that if the folder on the USB will be named
retropie
it won't do anything, it needs to be named:
retropie-mount

OK thanks, i did not catch it :)

That's already covered in the Docs - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Running-ROMs-from-a-USB-drive/. This is not backup, you need to have the USB drive plugged in at all times to run ROMs from it. The script will copy the ROMs and create the folders only the 1st time you insert it.

OK, thanks, in closing if on a blank USB pen we create a simple
retropie
folder and plug it into the raspberry it wil recreate inside of it the whole roms filesystem structure, for the user to copy the roms inside the directories. -
@niculinux That's for transferring ROMs from the USB to the SDcard, not for backup.
-
@mitu one way I found was to turn on my pi let it connect to the network, then connect to my pi with my computer under network places. There it was, the rooms folder. I just copied it to my computer. Now it I do a new install I just connect to it over network and place the rooms on it.

@Patch Yes, that's the option described in - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Transferring-Roms/#samba-shares.
