Autoconfig wizard tool after booting on first install?
-
Don't know if someone has even think of it, but would be nice to have some kind of wizard that starts on fisrt boot, (i mean after flashing a fresh image on an SD card/USB stick/whatever mass media storage); so after every first inslat user may not have to navigate in the setup to make some changes, this would very useful setting the localization options and the keyboard layout, and also th wifi settings: May be easy doable?

@niculinux personally i'm in the UK and don't use wifi, or a keyboard so i have no need to configure wifi or keyboard (in fact, a wizard forcing me to configure wifi would require me to get a keyboard!)
i think the controller wizard is enough, personally. it's the only mandatory part.

@dankcushions You even can import WiFi settings via keyfile. There is no need for keymap setting. Joypad dialog is fine and you are ready to go. My wireless keyboard is SSH

Actually, I've seen quite a few people struggling to find and type the
|
character, which - due to the UK keyboard mapping - is located differently on an US keymap. People coming in contact the 1st time with Linux and never having to use said character are confused - especially since some install scripts or tutorials use it frequently.Having said that, I think changing the default from a UK keyboard to US would be enough to 'fix' this confusion.
-
@mitu haha what do you think about german keyboard connected β¦ there is nothing common to UK or US. A workaround about the pipe would be ASCII typed char with ALT+CTRL.
But maybe a change from UK to US would be useful for more people in general. I have no real opinion about this, sorry.

I prefer to stick with the Raspbian defaults.

Actually the wifi settings may ve skipped by the user, i was thinking somethina as a ncurse based installer, with an hanful of options, like lubuntu alternate/minimal cd π¨βπ»

@niculinux No one hinders you to start such a project. Most things can be set up by dialogs now so you may integrate most wanted features in just one menu. But I really doubt the essential need.
