I had to realize I have lost controller support for my Logitech Rumblepad 2 in RetroPie 3.8. After hours of digging, I found this in the wiki: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Logitech-controllers mentioning "As of RetroPie 3.8, the controllers don't seem to work in DirectInput mode anymore. They still work fine in XInput mode".

I did not even know a bit about DirectInput and XInput until today, but appearently my trusty old controller is now out of the game. Downgrading to RetroPie 3.7 made things just fine again.

Could you please reconsider dropping support for DirectInput controllers? I doubt I'm the last one on Earth using one of these old devices, but they work perfectly and hey, ain't retro gaming the base idea behind RetroPie? :)

@kjozsa we don't maintain the kernel. Support for that controller was a bug introduced with kernel changes outside of our control. Supposedly it should be fixed in a future kernel update

Ah so what made things stop working was a change in the kernel driver between 4.1 and 4.4? I do hope it gets fixed upstream then.. crossing fingers, thanks :)
