Unable to trigger rgui overlay menu via controller (nor save/load state etc via controller)

Hi. Just started using retropie for the first time a couple of days ago. (got a bartop cabinet-plan)
triggered the rgui just fine with my controllers (8bitdo NESPRO and NESPRO Pro).
all the other hotkey-combos worked as well.But now, none of my controllers can activate hotkey-combos. I can only do it via keyboard.
Does this has something to do with:
" input_enable_hotkey_btn = "nul" " (excerpt from my retroarch.cfg ?" input_enable_hotkey = "rshift" " this is probably what allows me to start the rgui via the keyboard, right?
