FBA 0.2.97.43 ROMS work well on PC but not on Retropie
-
Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi model 3 B
Power Supply used: Canakit power supply came with Pi
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): retropie-4.4-rpi2_rpi3.img
Built From: retropie-4.4-rpi2_rpi3.img This was written to a freshly formatted 32 g Sandisk FAT32
USB Devices connected: microsoft keyboard and mouse, video is HDMI out to DVI using a conversion cable
Controller used: TaTa K-Y-D002-024
Error messages received: No message. FBA just fades back to ROMLIST instead of loading
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: multiple forum and youtube
File: multiple ROMs, Battle Cruiser M-12 worked
Emulator: Final Burn Alpha which came loaded on the retropie-4.4-rpi2_rpi3.img
Attachment of config files: not sure if i need this
How to replicate the problem: ROM will not load
I have a set of FBA 0.2.97.42 ROMS. I used FB Alpha v0.2.97.43 (ClrMame Pro XML) DAT file with CLRMAMEPRO to update these ROMS to 027943. I loaded these on to retropie. I tried many of them including the classics, galaxian, double dragon, pac man, etc. Kept getting the fade back to the ROM list and no load. I got the Battle Cruiser M-12 to work. Not sure why, but it shows that something is working. I had previously tried this with a different MAME set and the MAME emulator which I had thought I had updated to the correct version and had the same problem. I can't remember the versions, but I wanted to mention as I have not had much success.
I downloaded the FBA 0.2.97.43 to PC and both set versions .42 and .43 work well. I am wondering if I am missing something that I should check or try with the retropie, or if maybe there is something wrong with my hardware. I am a novice at raspberry pi, but am usually pretty good at figuring things out as my job is very technical. Any hints would be appreciated and I hope that I have provided enough information. -
Post the log file (
/dev/shm/runcommand.log
) taken after you start a game and have enabled verbose logging in the Runcommand launch menu. Use pastebin.com for its contents, as it would be too large for a forum post.
Most likely the ROMset is missing something. -
Can I get the /dev/shm/runcommand.log off of the raspberry using ssh with putty?

@redshirt43 Not sure what fbalpha version is loaded in that retropie img, but at the very least i can confirm you have a somehow bad romset for the version you are using :
ROM at index 0 with CRC 0x597696d6 is required ...
My recommendations :
- update your fbalpha version to latest (DO NOT USE fbalpha2018) through the retropie scripts
- use latest dats at https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha/tree/master/dats to update your romset
Most likely, your 0.2.97.42 frogger rom was fine with the fbalpha bundled in that img before you updated it...
If you want to update fbalpha or its romset, update both or update neither, and use latest dats from the repo, because they must match.
At this point in time, with the recent changes, the fact the retropie wiki is providing its own DATs files instead of directly linking the official ones is an awful idea.

i agree.
@MajorDangerNine - looks like you changed the direct links to google drive links here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FinalBurn-Alpha/_compare/81a7809c4b7fc38722dfff32477cb4271ac9dc55...8edf1a638a2e6aac994fc6883cabd5dbd2758244
please use the official dats on the fbalpha github when updating links, thanks :)

I removed the .43 ROMS and added the .42 ROMS that I had updated. They work! My intention was to pair the ROMS to the FBA version in the 4.4 retropie image. Documentation I found on the subject led me to believe it was the .43 version of FBA. No worries, I learned a lot from this. Thank you for the help.

@dankcushions Sorry. Think I couldn't get something to work right and just went with a Google Drive link. Won't happen again.
