black screen when pressing SELECT+START to exit.

Hi @ all,
I can still blindly navigate through ES, but the HDMI signal is lost after exiting to ES from a game. how to fix that?
Any help is highly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

eg - did you install this over an existing raspbian or ? You have provided no information regarding your setup.

thanks for your reply. I just installed the newest image on my new pi zero. I get a screen when booting and selecting, but when I exit to ES the screen is lost. It only starts in safe mode (and looks terrible then).

have you got a keyboard connected ? Please connect one and press a key to make sure it's not the console blanker or something kicking in.
This happens for all emulators? Have you adjusted any configs - eg the initial video mode via
/boot/config.txt
?When you say newest image, you are referring to 3.8.1 ? Also does this happen with all emulators? Perhaps you can make a video of the problem - it might help.

yes I got a keyboard and 3.8.1. it happened to all emulators, but now I got it figured out by selecting HDMI_mode=4 and group=1.
the last issue I still have is that there are some lines missing on top of the games:

the rom loads fine on PC emulators showing the full size. but on retroarch the top lines are missing regardless of the emulators resolution I choose. do you have an idea? can I go to retroarch scaling settings ingame somehow`?

did you by any chance change some stuff in retroarch? I changed the palette in Gameboy so it wasnt pea soup green, and after that anytime i did start+select to exit the emulator it switches to av2. black screen and I had to power down. I am using a handheld i built, wondering if this is a similar issue as what i was having?
-
no, used the straight away defaults. now that I got that "fixed" using some config.txt lines I want to get my last issue by the balls:
pixel perfect emulation. at least I would like to get the missing lines back that render perfectly on nestopia and FCEUX on PC, but unfortunately retroarch does hide them somehow... (see picture above).

change the aspect ratio (see configuration editor).
