      on my first run of RP. i bought USB Super Nintendo controllers which means there are more options in the gamepad list than there are on the controller. Now I can't navigate the menu down to 'OK'. I've tried button combos that have moved the selection up or down but even that seems to have stopped working. I'm afraid to restart because the warning say you have to be careful about how you power down your pi. Looking for advise on the best course of action from here. thx

        There is a message on the screen which says hold down any button to skip. This is pretty detailed:

        Please fill out https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first - what is your power supply?

          Alas, (and contrary to the screenshot of configuring gamepad 1 in the Docs) the message disappears after the first button. It's easy to miss it because of that, as it happened to me the very first time I configured controllers in RetroPie.

            @Clyde I did not know this. Is this a change? In my experience, the message appears throughout when you are presented with buttons that you might not have like in this video

            However, I have not updated this year.

              @rbaker The video in your post is from March 2017. I began with RetroPie 4.3 in late 2017, and ever since the message disappears after the first button is bound. You can see it in this video from May 2018:

              edit: I just updated all installed packages today.

                @Clyde It's a known issue - https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation/pull/483. It will be fixed eventually.

                  @mitu I was hoping one of the more seasoned ES Devs would review and merge. I'll merge it. Thanks btw.

                  [Edit]
                  (Will cherry pick some fixes including this for next es stable as it's now only in the main dev branch).

                    @BuZz That's great news, since it can confuse new users who miss the message before it disappears (like I missed it back then). Thanks!

                    edit: And thanks to @mitu for the pull request.
