Rearranging Systems
-
Hey all,
To put my systems in order to show the way I like on es, I've gone ahead and edited my es_systems config file in /etc/emulationstation and rearranged the systems to my liking, however when I reboot, the systems are still in alphabetical order. Is there a step I'm missing? It doesn't seem that the pi is recognizing my changes
Pi Model or other hardware: B+
Power Supply used: (If using a Pi)
RetroPie Version Used: 4.4.3
ES Version: 2.7.6RP
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
Attachment of config file: https://pastebin.com/pAgFGwT7 -
@yorks361 What version of Emulationstation/RetroPie ? Can you add the information from https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first to your post ?
EDIT: Emulationstation has a log file where any errors are shown in
~/.emulationstation/es_log.txt
. Look to see if any errors are reported there. -
@mitu so I'm using version 4.4.3. After checking out the log file, I do see a bunch of "Warning from Theme"
EDIT: The warnings are all from systems I haven't put on retropie yet, at the end of each it says could not find file ""
-
@yorks361 The warnings are ok, I was wandering if there were any errors reported. Can you paste the
es_systems.cfg
file on pastebin.com ? What modifications have you done to the file - i.e. what systems have you re-arranged ? -
@mitu Sure thing https://pastebin.com/pAgFGwT7 I didn't see any errors in the log.
All I've done is moved mame behind fba gbc in front of gba, nds behind gba, snes behind nes, and retropie behind zxspectrum.
EDIT: I also move mastersystem and megadrive in front of Sega32x
-
Can you check if you have another
es_systems.cfg
in your home folder, under~/.emulationstation/
? -
@mitu nope, there isn’t one in there.
-
So I ended up using a back up I made of my image prior, and I was able to get the es_systems.cfg to work this time. However it’s reverted back to its original order of systems after a day.
Is there something that’s causing the custom es_systems.cfg to not work or be read the way I’ve listed it? Is another default version found anywhere else other than /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation that may be overriding my custom .cfg file?

FIX: After looking around, I found es_settings.cfg and saw that "Sort All Systems" was 'True'... Changed value to "False" and it was sorted the way I prefer and edited! :)
kept wondering why it was never changing!
