I was asking around on one of the Retropie Faceboook pages about this, and I was directed to this page.

      https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/GPIO-Modules

What I would like to do is wire NES ports directly to my GPIO on my Pi 3, and use what ever software I need installed in order to get it to work. I had made some attempts in the past using an old and perhaps outdated instructable guide, but was not able to get anywhere as I recall getting an error during boot time after I had installed the GPIO drivers and no one on Facebook seemed to know how to get around it and make the controllers detect and respond.
