Use Pi3B image on Pi 3B+?

I did search but got a huge number of pages to scroll through and so thought I may get a better and more definitive answer like this!
I have an up to date Pi 3B 128gb image backed up, can I write this to a Pi 3B+ using a 128gb card and it will work, or do I have to start from scratch with a new install of RP on the new Pi?

@chubsta yes and no. If you are running Stretch, no problem. But if you are running an older version of retropie running of Jesse, then no.

@lostless thanks for the quick reply - my original RP install is completely up to date as of last week, I was intending doing a backup of that and writing it to the card for the 3B+. I guess there is no harm in just trying it anyway, but it is always handy to know if something is SUPPOSED to work, then if it doesn't I know I am doing something wrong and that it is not a compatibility issue.
