Playstation Classic and Upscaling (Massive Noob Question)
-
Hi,
Apparently the PlayStation Classic is upscaled to 720p. What exactly does this mean? Is this like the resolution hack in LR- PCSX Rearmed, or something different? Can I replicate this with LR- PCSX Rearmed and a Rasberry Pi? Is the difference noticeable and is it worth bothering?
For reference I run LR- PCSX Rearmed on a vanilla Pi 3B+ and play most game with the resolution hack enabled.
Thanks.

@George-Spiggott it just means that the 320x240 (or thereabouts) original game resolution is scaled up to 720p, so it doesn't appear as a tiny postage stamp sized image :) all emulators do this in retropie, assuming you're using a non-CRT. in fact, if you have a 1080p tv we upscale to 1080p by default, although if you run a 720p device on a 1080p tv your TV will do the same operation via it's internal scaler.
the scaling operation doesn't add detail - actually it introduces scaling artefacts, or blurring, but it's usually invisible. however it's necessary to view low resolution content on high resolution displays.
so yeah, it's not the same as the resolution hack, which actually changes the internal rendering resolution, adding fidelity. however that option has a bunch of compatibility/display bug issues so the psx classic won't be using it.

@dankcushions I see now. Thanks.
