Configuring lr-Mame2003-Plus Questions
-
Second question:
I have noticed that even after updating my samples from Twisty's and moving them to
/home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2003-plus/samples
Several games still produce a sample not found error. Notably, Berserk has no sound at all and Donkey Kong is missing the sound for DK knocking the platforms down during the intro. Other games, such as Q'Bert, show the error for missing samples but still seem to have them all.
Is there any other settings I need to change, or another type of sample I should be using?

In 2003 you use:
mame2003-dial_device = "mouse"There is no option in MAME 2003 called
mame2003-dial_device
however there is an option in MAME 2003 and MAME 2003 calledmame2003_dialsharexy
andmame2003-plus_dialsharexy
.I wonder if it's also possible that you are thinking of
mame2003_mouse_device
andmame2003-plus_mouse_device

@markwkidd Thank you for your reply! I got the idea that you would need these lines from the following solved responses on the forums:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/20496/solved-unable-to-get-trackball-working-with-mame2003/2
and
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/21169/help-for-mouse-trackball-dial-spinner-not-working-in-mame
both of which mentioned needing to add these lines.
If I don't need them, then my question would be "how do I get mame to recognize the movement of the mouse as an input? It currently accepts the clicks, but there is no reaction from trying to set a mouse movement.
-
mouse support is broke in retropie i submitted a patch for RA for this and its woking now ra 1.7.6. update your install script and update retroach in retropie I would compile from source I have no idea if the bins are updated

@grant2258 Got it! I will give it a full update and see what happens!
Also, I wanted to thank the developers for Mame 2003-plus, because even though I may not be able to use mouse, the controller support for dial, spinner and trackball games is much better than in 2003! more smooth motion and less jumping!
-
@grant2258 Unfortunately, after updating all of my core files from source, the problem persists. I can still get Mame to recognize mouse clicks, but not any scrolling/motion.
Additionally, updating from source somehow caused all of my scraped images to stop showing even through they are still downloaded. I'm not quite sure what to do about that problem.

In emulation station press start. Go to UI settings and make sure games list view type is set to detailed.

start plus with logging and pastebin it for me ill see whats going on your end. Also lately with all the updates you need to delete you old mame2003-plus cfg files in mame2003-plus/cfg. Also make sure you on the latest mame2003-plus or youll need to do it again. There was a dual cfg system implemented a few days ago.
-
@quicksilver This resolved my issue with the scraped images, although unfortunately not before I reran the scraping process. Thank you!
I will follow-up on the mouse fix this evening.
-
@ward614 if you re-update emulation station from binary there should be a fix in that makes the automatic setting in the Gameslist view type work properly again.
-
@grant2258 I am not sure how to get my log file from the pi onto pastebin, but I typed out the sections relating to the mouse below:
[INFO] [udev]: Mouse #0 (/dev/input/event2). [INFO} [udev]: Mouse #1 (/dev/input/mouse0).
I would gladly include the rest in exchange for some brief instruction on how do copy the file! :)
Additionally, I have updated 2003-plus from source before trying this out today. The
cat /dev/input/mouse0
check also shows that I have the right value (0) in my retroarch.cfg file in /configs/all.
I await your words of wisdom!
-
mouse 0 and 1 are the same device just different types one is abs and one isint. You deleted the wrong configs. The configs you want to delete are wher your roms are in the mame2003-plus/cfg dir this is the ones that mame creates.
it will either be
roms\mame-libretro\mame2003-plus\cfg
or
roms\arcade\mame2003-plus\cfg
start after burner and use your mouse
-
@grant2258 That did it!
The other issue I had was related to samples, but the updates seem to have resolved that issue as well!
Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate the work you put into the community!
-
no problems at all i would do the same for mame2003 if you have updated the last few days mame2003/cfg dir will need cleared as well.
