Bluetooth controller, going to sleep, won't connect in game.

So I have RetroPie running on a Pi zeroW, everything is working awesome.
Small issue.. If I have a game running on MAME4ALL, and if the blue tooth controller doesn't get 'touched' for 2 minutes, it goes to sleep. If I turn it back on, it looks like it's connected (via the solid light), but I can't control anything.. I can't start the game, I can't leave the game. This forces a power off reboot because I don't have a keyboard on the PiW.
If the controller goes to sleep in the RetroPie menu, I can recover. I can't if it's in the MAME game though.
Anyways to recover the joystick connection, while in the MAME game? Just slightly annoying.
Thanks

I know this post is old, but just wanted to reply saying I have the exact same issue with an 8BitDo bluetooth controller in mame-mame4all and amiberry. I don't think anyone else thinks this is an issue, but it's very annoying when in game your controller becomes unusable, because it went to sleep and after waking up the emulator completely ignores it.
