Linux 4.19 coming to Raspbian soon
-
Hi all,
For the more techie users, this is kind of nice news:"The Raspberry Pi Foundation today started rolling out an update that brings its devices to the Linux 4.19 kernel."
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/raspberry-pi-updates-to-linux-419,38672.html@psyke83 this sounds particularly useful for the sixaxis scriptmodule too, i.e. probaly not needing a custom hid driver anymore as it will come in the kernel.
-
A new kernel will fix the USB rumbling issue for Shanwan controllers, but there's no upstream fix for Gasia BT pairing issue in the newer kernel's driver. Still, it's nice to see a new kernel coming for the Pi.
-
It seems that the new kernel is now in Raspbian's repo. It would probably be a good idea to check for compatibility issues with our available dkms modules (and other potential issues beyond that).
Edit: jumped the gun a bit. It's a preparatory update before the kernel version bump: https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/releases/tag/1.20190401

4.19 has has been in the RP Linux repo for quite some time in testing and had a lot of updates. It can be installed through
rpi-update
if anyone wants to give it a go. -

rpi-update
can cause trouble due to it installing additional files that can cause conflicts (such as the old EGL library names, which should be omitted). The kernel upgrade was blocked for some time due to a memory leak in cgroups, but it looks like they're going to proceed with the upgrade (with cgroups disabled): https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=224931&sid=d88d36c5c6922cea51d364816185e739&start=150#p1451776

And it seems to be rolling out now - 1.20190401-1 is in the repository, so there's no need forrpi-update
.EDIT: eh, spoke to soon, 1.20190401-1 is still at 4.14.
