Hello everyone. I'm looking to incorporate some arcade classics into my RetroPie based console. I'm not so much interested in polygon based games, more so advanced 2D games which use a lot of scaling and rotation. I noticed there is a few different MAME based emulators included with RetroPie. My question is which one is the best performing and all around solution for games of that generation that use those effects. Thanks in advance.

@drake999 there's no one answer otherwise it wouldn't ship with so many installed. have a read of the wiki to give you an idea of the differences. https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/MAME

personally, I vote lr-mame2003 for a pi3, but I use other cores for certain games.

I've gone the mame2003 route with a sprinkling of fba-next for the CPS stuff and Neo Geo Stuff.

Pretty much covers all the bases.

Took a while (Still not quite finished with the CPS stuff), but thats to the help off @dankcushions and others its all worked out :-)

@Chillimonster Thanks for the reply, there seems to be a consensus about mame2003, I will give that a try first and see how it performs. Thanks again.

Added in the rest of the CPS roms today and assigned them to fba-next

NEO GEO is now in awaiting assignment, and going to add in the games from advMAME that use trackball / analogue controls (Crystal Castles / Centipede etc)

@Chillimonster has it spot on that's how I role, lr-mame2003 and then all my NEOGEO in fba-next. For some reason my little beer serving friend Tapper (Budweiser) requires his own Emulator so is running on lr-mame2010 (He's so Needy)
