So I finally got so far as to get screenscraper working, but out of the 33 new games I've put on there, 10 just can't seem to be found with the scraper, even basic names that shouldn't go wrong like Duke Nukem 3D or Jurassic Park.

I'm probably missing something. With thegamesdb, I used to go to their site and check the exact name they called the games, but that doesn't seem to work for screenscraper.

Anybody know what I'm missing here?

      • First Pi: Pi 3 in a PSone case
      • Second Pi: Pi 0 in a Retroflag GPi Case
      • Third Pi: Pi 4 as a desktop computer
      • Some time in 2020: Picade

The screenscraper source in ES doesn't support the input renaming (yet). Rename your ROMs to be as close to the game name and re-try. Can you give some examples of game (filename)/ system that don't scrape ?
Alternatively, try TGDB scraper, it should support search by custom name.

If you are using screenscraper with UXML it checks the game name and CRC checksum, you can try setting it to check name only under general configurations but I have had bad luck with that method.

are the games zipped, 7zipped, or raw? it could be that they just don't have the checksums for those roms.

It may be easiest to use a different scraper as mitu suggests.

Well that explains a lot. Some game names aren't really close to what I'm searching for (like Jurassic Park on Megadrive is just named "Jurassic" but there are surprising titles that aren't found like "Road Runner" on the SNES (guess it should be "Road Runner's Death Valley Rally"?) or "Duke Nukem 3D" on the PSX, as well as several other games that are actually quite close to what they should be called like "Disney's Toy Story 2 - Buzz Lightyear To The Rescue".

I can check tomorrow but yesterday it appeared that I could only choose between the screenscraper and thegamesdb scrapers.

I've edited all the game metadata to make the titles more fitting, but I'm not sure how I can rename the actual files. I'd rename them on my laptop and reload the files on Pi, but I'm also unsure on how to delete files on the Pi.

It's all just regular files, like .cue for PSX. or .nes for the NES.

Well, if you're searching for Jurassic, but the game is Jurassic Park and the file name is jurassic.md, then it won't work unless someone has added the ROM name to that game (on ScreenScraper's database).
There's also no Duke Nukem 3D on PS1, it's called something else (though if your .cue is simply Duke Nukem it should work):

All-in-all, the ScreenScraper search will be improved, including checksum support and manually entering the game's name.

Huh, I had no idea that Duke Nukem 3D was named differently on PS1 in the US (it's just "Duke Nukem" in Europe apparently, not "3D" like the main version). Its name on my Pi is "Duke Nukem 3D.cue" though, guess that was an error on behalf of the provider of the bin file. And yeah the JP file is named "Jurassic.md" right now.

I guess I'm going to check for each file what a good file name would be and change those. I guess (going on the different thread you commented in) that I can actually change the file names through samba share?

I might just delete Duke Nukem 3D though, I also have it on the PS3 through PS+ and I might just sell the PS1 disc as well.

Yes, either that or using the 'File Manager' entry from the RetroPie system in Emulationstation.

I tried to use that for something else, but I seem to just not get the file manager to do anything except browse through folders, none of the rename or remove things can be accessed by any way that I see.

@BillyH I think F6 is rename - look at the bottom of the screen for the most used F keys.

@mitu Yeah I tried the F keys, regular number keys (the bottom screen displays some actions for me with numbers in front, not F-numbers), other stuff... I'm probably just doing something wrong. I'll take a look this weekend to see if I can figure out what the problem is but I might go the lazier route and just install samba share.
