Sell a Raspberry Pi Project for Retropie (w/o it included)
-
Hello all!
First of all, I'm new to the forum, so let me introduce myself:
I'm Pedro Fabri, developer and game-addicted from SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil!I really love RetroPie and I've seen a lot of "fully loaded" projects been sold around the internet.
As I thought, and as I've confirmed here in the forum, it's illegal.My plan is to create custom RPi cases and sell it ready for gaming. But I'm not confortable in making money with GPL software
(GPL isn't for profit, right? OPEN SOURCE RULES!)So, back to the plan, I'm thinking about a workaround for this.
Would it be fine if I delivered the RPi case with the RPi inside, all ready to use, with controllers, etc. AND a manual explaining how the user could access RetroPie, download and configure it for gaming?Also, I plan to donate a small amount for every product sold, because I love your job and it's the fairest thing to do. (would also love to help with the development!)
As I've read here and here, I think that my idea is fine, right?
Thanks for y'all!

If RetroPie isn't included that's fine :-) Including a manual explaining how to download etc is a good idea.
Very thoughtful of you to consider contributing back to the project. Look forward to seeing your case designs.

@BuZz thank you!
Yup, it's just an idea for now but I'm designing the cases and plan to 3d-print them!
If that works out I'll definitely post the results here!
Do you have any idea if posting ROM download tips is illegal?
Like talking about websites where you can find them? -
@darksilux I would prefer you didn't do that. Thanks.
-
@BuZz Okay!
Thanks again

You could provide some scripts in form of "installer", so the manual work for end user is less work as possible.

@thelostsoul Wow I was thinking exactly about that...
Thanks about that!I'll post updates here as soon as I have something ;)
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
