n64 controller config
-
@mitu oh, thanks! It seems i still have to configure controllers for both emulators in the system somehow but i think there's a tutorial. It's a few years old but it will probably work
-
@mitu so i figured out how to switch emulators but to no avail. The config is still stuck. If you look under control config here https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Nintendo-64 it shows the Mupen64plus-Libretro config and the Mupen64plus config. the mupen one has the weird right analog down and a buttons combined as well as the right analog left button and x combined as well as A is B and B is Y. Not sure how to get to the original setup.

@dennievortex y (west button) should be "b" and b (south button) should be "a". I'm not sure how this is weird. If you mapped your controller properly in emulation station the default config should work perfectly. The only weird thing is that the N64 "c" buttons are mapped to the right analog. But there is no way around this (there are no c buttons on modern controllers). The only difference between the two emulators is the standalone mupen64plus also double maps left "c" and down "c" to x and a, where as lr-mupen64plus doesn't map x and a at all.

@quicksilver @quicksilver all i know is my controller loads into the N64 with the top pic in this album https://imgur.com/qLg8vX8. When i configure it the normal way it automatically switches to the other way when i load the N64 no matter what emulator i use. It causes buttons to not work no matter how i configure.

@quicksilver so how do i get the A button to work in Zelda? as is it won't let me pull out my sword. it just pulls out whatever's in bottom C button. Nothing works as button A when i configure it like a regular N64 controller

Thanks everyone. i figured it out. Had to configure the buttons a little weird but now they work.
