Ok so I have to admit that I am still super green with the majority of retropie issues and how to solve them, especially the simple ones. However, I noticed recently that after hitting F4 and going to the command line that a joystick graphic that would display along with the CPU and GPU temps as well as the used and available disk space was missing. I don't know how I deleted it, or caused it not to be there at the command line, but I'd like to find a way to get it back without wiping the pi and starting all over again. Has anyone else dealt with this before and if so how did you fix it? Thanks in advance!

@jasonh1314 The ascii art welcome is produced by running retropie_welcome, a shell function added by the install script to your shell start-up file.
If you open the $HOME/.bashrc file, the last lines should be

        retropie_welcome
        # RETROPIE PROFILE END

If you accidentally overwritten your .bashrc, then the welcome ascii art function is not run when your login session starts.
