I installed retropie a couple days ago, thought everything was fine. But when I switched back to the Raspbian GUI, I got an error that usbmount@dev-sda.service has failed. I noticed my mounted disks as displayed on my desktop were being listed several times each.

If I went to /media/ where my drives used to be listed, instead of their labels, I get things like usb0, usb1, usb2... With several more entries shown than I have actual partitions.

None of my content is actually accessible.

I manually mounted all the partitions under /mnt/ and they show up there as empty locations.

How do I fix this? I've turned off usbrom-whatever it's called in retropie as that was the only suggestion I could find. That stopped the error from cropping up but I'm still unable to access my content on my USB drives.

I'm using a raspberry pi 3 B, with Raspbian and retropie installed over it. Everything was installed from official sources and updated in the last week.

If you turned off/removed the usbromservice, then there's nothing else in RetroPie that can affect your USB mounts. Can you check to see if the usbmount service is disabled/uninstalled ?

On your desktop, open the file explorer and then select edit
File [Edit] View Sort Go Tools
          "Preferences"
          "Volume Management"
Then fill out all the checkboxes under auto-mount.
I guess if they are already checked, it may be worth a try to uncheck and reboot; then recheck them and reboot.
