GBC not loading save state files from previous version of Retropie
-
Originally had a Pi 3B with Retropie version, 4.0, copied entire rom directory to my laptop. Bought a 3b+ and installed latest version of retropie 4.4....in GBC, when trying to load .sav files, I see the yellow text on the lower left but nothing loads.
If I save a state on the new build, state loads fine. wondering if these .state files were linked to a different emulator?
i tried some ps1 titles and .state files load fine.
Tried loading and testing all 3 GBC emulators but none of them load the .state files
lr-gambatte
lr-tbgdual
lr-mgbaIs there any way to look in the .state file to see which emulator was used at time of save?

@Goldglv sometimes when an emulator is updated it will break existing save states. I.e. your older save states are no longer compatible. It's always best to make sure you have in game saves as well because these will not break.

The older save states I have are literally only about 2 months old, would the GBC emulators been updated since then?

@Goldglv I see this fix was merged into lr-gambatte around the end of last november:
https://github.com/libretro/gambatte-libretro/pull/117
States that it fixes a bug with saves states but invalidates all prior save states. Perhaps its related to your issue.

It's not about the save file age, but the emulator version. If your last update for the emulator was from the 4.0 version of RetroPie (2 years ago ? more ?), then the emulator version you used on the previous build was also most likely that period.

Thank you for the replies....it was one game so I decided to just start from my last game save and catch up to where I was...
