I am using LIRC to receive GPIO IR signals from my remote, which executes various commands via lircrc. Everything works fine, except I don't know how to simulate keypresses on RetroPie. I have tried using both xdotool and python (uinput, evdev) without success. Might someone have a suggestion on how to achieve this?

By the way the LEFT and RIGHT buttons on my remote work by default so I am hoping there is some way I can utilize the current functional implementation rather than hacking up something in python. Any clues?
