I have searched around and tried different recommendations to no avail. I am using a Linux PC Ubuntu x86 (i5 processor w/ 1050 ti graphics card) and most of the advice I come across pertains to the Raspberry Pi SBCs so that doesn't help me much. Everything was working great using the PC monitor, I'm using the right drivers, emulators, output set to HDMI, everything was fine, but when I switched to my 50" 4K TV via HDMI it became unplayable. I am getting picture and sound but both are very laggy. I've tried messing with some settings but no luck. When I hook it back to the monitor its fine again. Any ideas? I am sure it's a simple fix of changing around some settings but I have yet to stumble upon the answer so I'm tapping out haha sorry if this has been answered already I was unable to find it. Thanks guys.
Is it the same HDMI cable you are using?
Maybe your TV has too much delay and has no low latency mode -
your PC might be running at 4k. i guess you'll have to manually set the videomode to 1080p in linux

@Agustinb14 I was actually wondering if that might have something to do with it. My TV is a bit far from the computer so I had to run a 15ft HDMI to reach it. Thanks for the tip I'll check my TV for latency settings. I have a Samsung UHD 50" model UN50NU6900. Did a quick search and came across this in a review "It has a low input lag and a fast response time which are good for games" LOL go figure... so there has to be something I can fiddle with to fix this!

@dankcushions It's weird if I plug my Monitor in using a good ol' DVI cable and change the input back it works just fine. Agreed, I'm thinking when I connect the HDMI and move it over to the TV it's trying to accomplish 4K. I'll try changing the resolution in Ubuntu itself and report back. Thanks for the tips guys!

Your output is probably running at 30hz. This is set by default in Ubuntu and everything runs like garbage on a 4k TV. You can set it to 60hz if your TV supports it, or switch to 1920x1080 60hz whichever is easier for you.

UPDATE: Thank you guys! Indeed Ubuntu was set to 4K, changed it to 1920x1080 60hz and it instantly solved the issue. Facepalm Rookie mistake! lol! I appreciate everyones help!
