Can RetroPie (Raspberry Pi) run Vector-scan games with nice graphics and no sound lag?
-
I have the latest build of RetroPie on a Raspberry Pi 3+ B. I find that Advance MAME 1.4 runs vector scans very nicely at low-resolutions. All other versions of MAME look ugly I've found for the likes of Asteroids and BattleZone. Perhaps you've found otherwise?
What I find spoils the experience is that the sound lags by about a second. I've tried on CRT VGA monitors and HDMI LCD screens. The problem remains.
Has anyone been able to get vector-scan games, looking good at low-res, working without the horrible sound-lag? It seems strange, as all other versions of MAME do not have this sound lag. Would love to get Asteroids working well.

@OneSwitch I found the same problem with advance MAME 1.4.
It doesn't seem to happen with advance MAME 0.94 though. As long as your ROMs are compatible with that version as well, that might be the easiest solution?

@GtBFilms I'll try that thanks. And the graphics still look good?

@OneSwitch haven't tested it with vector games to be honest, I noticed the sound lag in some 2D scrolling fighters.
I did mess about with video settings for Asteroids (I agree in most emulators it looks dull - sometimes the bullets are practically invisible!) I got it looking quite bright but the initial menu screen is a bit messed up.

@GtBFilms Thanks so much. Can't believe I didn't have the sense to try it. Works a treat. No idea why, clearly some fault in AdvanceMame1.4 in comparison to 0.94. So nice to have Asteroids playing without that horrible sound lag.
Top man.

@OneSwitch glad it worked for you too!
