Hey everyone, long time lurker first time poster. Love RetroPie and have setup a number of systems for friends and family and now that the Pi 3 has come out I have been attempting to work through getting N64 games functional.

      Pi Model: 3
      RetroPie Version Used: 3.8.1
      Built From: SD Image
USB Devices connected: Logitech Gamepad F710
      Controller used:Logitech Gamepad F710
      Error messages received: N/A
      Guide used:
      File: /opt/retropie/configs/n64/mupen64plus.cfg
      and
      /opt/retropie/configs/n64/InputAutoCfg.ini
      Emulator: Mupen64Plus
Attachment of config files: Currently stock file config file

I am attempting to do two things to the mupen64plus configuration files. First is to swap the mappings for the A and B buttons as they seem backwards and counter-intuitive for my preferences. Every time I change them and save the changes they are immediately switched back in the mupen64plus.cfg file. Do I need to edit the InputAutoCfg.ini file for these changes to stay persistent?

The same thing happens when I attempt to modify the shortcut keys for things like exiting the emulator without needing a keyboard but every time I save the changes I go back to check and they have been immediately switched back.

On a related note does anyone else have this controller and have suggestions for useful shortcut key combinations for Mupen64Plus? Haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet but I was thinking I could maybe even utilize that center logitech button for a shortcut key if I can figure out what the button number is.

@chaberman you can opt out of the autoconfiguration for mupen64plus and I think you can do it through the configuration editor

Also I believe the controls are correct but the A and B feel unintuitive because of the placement compared to the original n64 controller.

For the a and b you need to do it in the input auto config file and for me its using the hotkey and exit emulator buttons i have set in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/name of your controller.cfg

Thanks for the tips, I used jstest to get an idea of what buttons were what so I knew what I need to push to check out the hotkey functionality. I also discovered there is a section in the wiki for the Logitech F710 which I was not aware of so I am looking through that now as it suggests some ways to get the desired behavior I am looking for.

So in my quest to get the N64 working the way I want it I seem to have broken something else in RetroArch.

Now none of my emulators will recognize input from my keyboard at all so I am stuck in whatever ROM I load until I reboot via SSH. Furthermore neither of my Logitech F710s work until I unplug the receiver and plug it back in even though the little yellow text says they are recognized when I start the ROM. The shortcut keys that are generated don't work either. However everything works in ES before I load a ROM.

The only two configuration files I edited were:

              /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/LogitechGamepadF710.cfg
              /opt/retropie/configs/n64/InputAutoCfg.ini

In fact even with a fresh image of retropie and simply loading my roms/bios files (no previous configuration) I am still having this issue, is this a new bug that has been introduced into 3.8.1? I am downloading 3.7 now to test as I didn't have this issue in previous versions of RetroPie.

EDIT: Hmm not sure what I did before but after flashing the 3.8.1 image again and copying over a test rom everything seems to be working now.

Well after getting everything set back up, getting my pi3 overclocked again, and running the retropie update script I have yet to have any of these issues again. I must have copied over some old configuration files that were causing my issues.

I am now having issues with mupen64plus again (not lr-mupen64plus), none of my shortcut codes are working for the gamepad even though they worked before. As far as I know I haven't changed anything configuration wise between when they worked and when they stopped. I have simply been going through and re-scraping box art and descriptions using the ES scraper.

Here are my config files: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/70586667/Retropie.zip

Bump hoping someone else has experienced this and has some pointers. I have been busy moving and haven't had a chance to play with the pi all week.
