SOLVED - How do I get a PS3 controller to pair on RPi3 WITHOUT a dongle
-
Hi,
I cannot get any of my PS3 controllers to pair with the RPi 3 using the built-in bluetooth. Any suggestions? I ensured my build was updated using the retropie_setup.sh script and selected UPDATE.
U UPDATE RetroPie Setup Script
Pi Model: 3
RetroPie Version Used: 3.6
Built From: SD Image
USB Devices connected: Keyboard
Controller used: PS3
Error messages received: None, it either locks up or does not find my PS3 controller
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide): I eventually followed the guide below and purchased a Nexxtech dongle to pair my PS3 controller with the Pi3. https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Setting-up-a-PS3-controller
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable) - RetroArch/Emulation Station/RetroPie v3.6 -
Hello everyone..I am pleased to announce I managed to get the RPi3 to pair with the PS3 controller. Only thing I had to do was update the RetroPie Script to v3.7, reboot, plug in the PS3 controller with a USB, disconnect the PS3 and then press the home button. I never even bothered to go into the pair menu or anything.
I successfully managed to pair 3 PS3 controllers.

I suspect you didn't try searching for it - as it's in the documentation.

If new - the documentation is definitely worth a read.

Note that the internal bluetooth on the RPI3 currently has problems and will crash the system - there are at least 3 other threads about it and an upstream ticket here - https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/1360
