Unable to configure the aimtrak light gun. It gets stuck on "Gun Detected Loading Configuration"

I did not have success with the custom images from the internet so I started from scratch. I downloaded the latest clean vanilla image from this site. Then I tried to configure my light gun, again without success using these instructions https://github.com/gunpadawan/gunconf unfortunately, the same thing happens it gets stuck on "Gun Detected Loading Configuration" Has anybody else hit this and be able to fix it?
