      Hello,

Im kind of wondering what the best source port is for doom 2?
Zdoom is nice because it has higher framerates for example prboom is stuck at 35 fps like vanilla but zdoom runs at around 100fps no joke on the pi..
But for me Zdoom feels too different like it feels floaty compared to vanilla real doom 2
So my question is.. is there a source port that has higher framerates like zdoom but also keep the vanilla gamestyle???

      thanks

@iosman123 As to my experience, i don't think so. Well at least if i could think of one source port that is, then it has to be Chocolate Doom since that port has the most vanilla doom gameplay you can get. I'm not sure which framerate limit Chocolate Doom has, but you could try it out. You can get it from Zerojay's RetroPie Extras repo.

There is also Zandronum which is a more enhanced source port of ZDoom. You can try out Zandronum by downloading my scriptmodule for RetroPie from my Doom Git repo and install it like any other source port from the RetroPie-Setup

I have tried all these doom source port on my RPI 3B. Some of them requires building from source.
        Chocolate Doom
        Odamex
        prBoom
        ZDoom
        Doom Legacy
        Zandronum
        ReMooD
        Eternity

In the end it all comes down to what your personal preference is.
Do you want the most vanilla experience, then go for Chocolate Doom or prBoom.
Do you want the most advanced doom source port, then go for Zdoom or even better Zandronum.

I think Zandronum is the inferior source port since it has many settings that you can tweak. I even think that you could probably get it to behave like vanilla Doom.

@iosman123 There's also Crispy Doom, a limit-removing fork of Chocolate Doom. It's available from the RetroPie Extra repo.

@dudleydes Ah yes. I forgot that source port. Then that might be his best bet on getting what he wants. :-)

Try Doom Legacy. Maybe you'll find it more similar to vanilla Doom 2.

And if you like it, then you'll have some nice new features, such as two-player splitscreen support, deathmatch with bots, skins, etc. Not as advanced as Zdoom / Zandronum, but at least it's a plus, when compared to other source ports.
