RPi4 Build Status / Devs
-
Hello,
I know. RetroPie for RPi4 isn't done yet, it'll be done when it's done. Thank you maintainers for your hard work.
Just for fun I tried building RetroPie using the RetroPie Setup tool and it booted up just fine. I haven't tried playing much on it (it was just a keyboard interface) but it certainly seems to be getting there!
My question is this -- for those of us who are devs from other worlds, comfortable with C, build systems, etc. is there anywhere that we can follow along with the dev process, and perhaps contribute testing if nothing else? I know the wonderful people who maintain RetroPie must be documenting what all is needed and going on somewhere -- I'd just like to get in the loop on that and if I can find a place to help do so.
Basically is there a list of things still broken?

@coogle I certainly wish someone would answer you. The more people working on this project the better. I almost wonder if there is something wrong with the Pi 4 hardware... Just trying to watch YouTube on a 4GB Pi4 in Raspian, the screen tearing is awful. It seems like it should be able to play this without issue. It would be nice if more/any information would be shared with us non-devs.

RetroPi4 is being worked on, but there isn't even proper graphics drivers available for the Pi4 yet, so it's not going to be 100% until after them and it will be even longer before the emulator/core optimizations are included. The hardware hasn't been out long, there is so many layers that need to be complete, the last thing RetroPi creators want are questions about non public releases such as the one I link too, so if you have any problems getting it to work, then your on your own to fix it, THAT is why they are not sharing beta images themselves, if they spent all their time answering posts about this stuff then they will spend less time working on getting the actual release finished. I for one hope they keep ignoring threads about Pi4 so they get it closer to spot on in their first release.

@coogle Updates are here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/tree/fkms_rpi4
You're free to build it and try it out. Let the devs do their thing and don't bother them. -
@LiveFreeDead appreciate the comments but please don't place links to unofficial/3rd party images. we don't support/encourage them here.
as said, all the info about current progress is on github.
