          yes there is: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003#samples

          that's for mame2003. there are several mame cores but since you didn't fill out the details in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first it's difficult to advise.

            any help with best application to link PC to Pi

            I use WinSCP and PuTTY.

            or just use windows - type //RETROPIE into the computer address bar space to access files.

                      you need to extract that fullset file on your pc, and place the individual files in that folder. eg /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2003/invaders.zip

                      sorry, the instructions on the wiki weren't clear in this regard - i've updated them: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003#samples

                      that said, it looks like you've run out of space anyway, so you'll need to free up some space on your pi before attempting this.

                      also, be weary of this post: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2061/need-guidance-best-mame-emulator-to-use-for-classic-80-s-games/67 - depending on what version you have samples might not work anyway until my fix goes live...
