Starting game remotely / via command line.

I'm currently in a project in which i must build an Arcade and (to make a long story short), i also must be able to start games using some kind of service.
What I've tried so far was: Creating a web-service in Python that runs the following command:
/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ snes "/path/to/rom.zip"
This works if i'm using the command in the Raspberry's terminal. However, when the web-service (that is running as a Linux service) uses the same command, it doesn't return any errors (return code zero), but the game does not appear in the screen.
My question is: Is there a way to make it work? Make a service run the command and the game starts to run as a foreground process.
I'm currently using a Raspberry Pi Zero W and the latest version of RetroPie.
