Can't get rid of cheat menu in MAME

Hello. I just stumbled upon this issue when launching a game in Mame. The cheat menu automatically appears after loading, and there does not seem to be a way to make it hidden again. Normally, I click on the L3+R3 buttons to make it appear and disappear, but this is not working anymore. Is there any way I can change this configuration back to how it originally worked? Thanks for your assistance :-).
