      Hi,
I just figured out, that in one tested game my saved game state can not be loaded successfull.
The game is "Phonix", running in mame-libreto.
When pressing the hotkey (or using the quick-menu) the game is stored (the saving hint appear: "100% saved state to slot #xx", and also the phonix.state.xx file is written on the filesystem.
But when pressing the hotkey (or using the quick.menu), the successful message "100% : Loaded state from slot x" appear, but nothing happens! No freeze, no go-back to saved state, ... nothing!

With another game (also under mame-libreto), it's working as expect, with hotkey and with the quick-menu.
Also ZX-Spectrum games seems to work as expeced with save/load feature.

Are same games not able to use the save-state feature? I thought this is totally coming from the emulator .... like a "snapshot" ...

Wondering, because the save/load message appear, the game.state<x> files are created ...

      Any ideas what happens here?

      Thanks,
      Martin

For MAME, it depends on the board being emulator, since each game has it's own 'driver' that emulates the game. Some of them have save states working, others do not.
Assuming you're using Mame2003, save state support it's a game dependent affair.
Btw, what's the name of the ROM for 'Phonix', I can't find this game in the MAME database ? I'd like to test it also and see what it's written in that save state.

@mitu Phonix is not known? One of my favourites in the 80th !
          See:

Rom file has name: "phonix.zip" ;-)
          Size is: 16245 Bytes

Can I see more infos (i.e. version) in one of the files in the zip-file (using an hex-editor ...) ?

OK, so is Phoenix - http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=phoenix&arcade_only=0&autosearch=1 ? I don't see any clone with the 'phonix' ROMset, is it phoenix.zip or phonix.zip ?

Yes, it looks like a bug in the emulator (mame2003) - though it says it saves/loads the state, this is not correct.
What you can do is use lr-fbneo for this game, the ROM is compatible and save states are supported and work.
