I have recently customized the system/menu buttons at the bottom of the screen in emulationstation (changing them to a different color). That was handled easily enough through the .xml files in the ES themes folder. However, when I press start to bring up the menu, they change to a different color. When I exit the start menu, they revert back to my custom settings. Anyone know where ES or Retropie houses these menu specific button colors, so I can go there and tweak them as well?

        AND...

I was just double checking the default Carbon theme. It has white text on a black background by default. When I hit start to pull up the menu, those buttons are unchanged. The stay white on black. In other themes, it looks like it inverts the text (so black becomes white and dark color buttons become light). This is likely due to the grey menu background causing things to go way darker when pulled up, which makes sense. But I'd like to figure out the functionality to the carbon theme and apply it here, so the buttons just stay how I set them, regardless of the menu being open or not. That was just to clarify.

There's a known bug w.r.t. the help menu when opening the menu - the help menu doesn't get the styling from the theme. See this issue.

Ah, I see. So you're saying, for now, it is what it is?
