New Port - VVVVVV
A few days ago, Terry Cavanagh made the source code of VVVVVV public and BuZz (not tagged because of not spamming him) created a script to add it to RetroPie Setup under the Experimental packages section!
For those of you who don't know the game, it's a 10-year old platformer indie darling with a retro feel, rated "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam and rightly so.
It runs great on a Pi 3B+ at least, and likely even lower. You can install it by updating RetroPie-Setup and going to the experimental packages menu. It feels right at home on RetroPie:
For the game to run, you'll need to own a copy of VVVVVV and copy the data.zip file to your
roms/ports/vvvvvvfolder. If you're on a Mac, you'll need to open the game package by right-clicking and then selecting "Show Package Contents" and it should be in one of the subfolders. On Windows it should be easier. On Linux I don't know, apologies.
The game also has an awesome soundtrack (and even a really nice Metal version album by FamilyJules that you can use to replace the in-game soundtrack if that's your thing!).
Thank you BuZz for adding this and everyone else have fun!

Really cool to see this game on the Pi now, it's always been a favorite of mine.
I wonder if some of Terry's other games will become open source years down the road. I'd love to get Super Hexagon on the Pi at some point.

TEN years? For me, it was like 2 or 3 years ago. Time flies like me getting trapped on Bomberman. Fast.

First thing I thought when I saw the announcement on twitter was it would be cool to port the C++ version! You guys are fast!
Can't wait to try it!🥰

I tried the port, and it's working great !
The only thing I saw that is weird, is a small mouse cursor in the top left corner of my screen.
Also, the ps4 controller was supported right away by the game, and this is awesome !
@tacgnol Interesting - that does not happen at all to me. What's your setup, what peripherals do you have plugged in,?
Cant Install it -
It getting stuck on 75% and give me that in the end -
[ 75%] Building CXX object CMakeFiles/VVVVVV.dir/src/Scripts.cpp.o
Any Idea HELP ?
@shavecat need to wait longer.
waited and it get me an error

Hm, interesting. In my case it's really just a waiting game, it is quite memory intensive.
Suggestion to try out: exit ES and everything else, and try to run it from the terminal. See if it alleviates the memory constraints. How much memory and microSD free space do you have?
1`giga (even try to make more space but didnt help...)
will try to quit the ES and try again.
pjft last edited by pjft
@shavecat Yeah, go at it with removing ES on the memory front.
I take it it's the standard GPU split as well?

ah?? I guess
Still stuck on 75% :(
You'll have to be patient, a few files take longer to compile.
U usually right, hope that the case now and it wont jump me back out .
will let know .
@mitu IT Worked !
thanks all ! <3

Got it working ! Amazing thanks alot :)

it's not that big of a deal to be honest, but it's there hehe.
My setup is simple. I have nothing plugged in, my controller is a dualshock 4 controller.
I might add that i'm using a unnoficial image.
I will try again on a fresh rpi4 with the weekly image to see if it's any different.

Which Pi are you guys running on?
I am using an overclocked Pi4 and am getting pretty crappy framerate. Is there anything that I can configure? Compile flags for instance.
